How Story Mode Works
Four simple steps to create a professional video story
Add Videos to Studio
Click 'Add to Studio' on Grok favorites page, or drag and drop local videos into the Side Panel.
Arrange Your Story
Drag and drop segments in the Storyboard to reorder. The first video becomes the Master that defines output specs.
Generate Continuations
Select a segment, browse the filmstrip to pick any frame, enter a prompt, and send to Grok. Frame Lock ensures seamless continuation.
Merge & Export
When all segments are ready, click export. FFmpeg will merge all videos locally and download the result.
Technical Highlights
IndexedDB High-Capacity Storage
Breaks the Chrome Storage 10MB limit by using IndexedDB to store large video Blob data.
WebAssembly FFmpeg
Run professional-grade video processing in-browser using FFmpeg.js (WASM). No server required.
Chrome Side Panel API
Uses Chrome's latest Side Panel API for a persistent workspace that doesn't interfere with your main browsing.
Fully Local Processing
All video data is processed locally. Nothing is uploaded to any server, ensuring complete privacy for your creations.
Video Extension Workflow
Create long AI video stories by chaining short clips. Each iteration extends your story with a new continuation video, building a seamless narrative frame by frame.
1. Download a Video
Download a video from your Grok favorites or any generation result. This becomes the starting point of your story.
2. Add to Video Studio
Drag and drop the video into the Video Studio panel. It appears as a clip on your storyboard timeline.
3. Extract Last Frame
The extension automatically extracts the last frame of the video. This frame serves as the visual reference for generating the next continuation.
4. Send Frame to Grok
Click "Send to Grok" to open Grok Imagine with the extracted frame already uploaded. The frame is pre-loaded so you can immediately write your prompt.
5. Generate Continuation
Write your prompt describing what happens next. Grok generates a new video that continues seamlessly from the last frame of your previous clip.
6. Download & Repeat!
Download the new video, add it to your storyboard, and start the loop again. Each cycle adds another chapter to your growing video story.
This iterative loop lets you build video stories of any length — chain 5, 10, or 50+ clips into a single continuous narrative, then merge them all with one click.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Story Mode
What is Story Mode in GrokMediaDownloader?
Story Mode lets you compile your downloaded Grok AI images into a scrollable visual story or slideshow. Instead of a flat folder of images, you can arrange them in a meaningful sequence, preview the flow, and share or export the whole story as a single file. It is ideal for creators who generate image series or visual narratives with Grok.
How do I create a story from my Grok images?
Open the Story Mode panel in the extension, select images from your collection, arrange them in the desired order by dragging and dropping, then click "Create Story." The story is instantly generated and ready to preview or export.
Can I customize the order of images in my story?
Yes. Story Mode includes a drag-and-drop reordering interface. You can freely rearrange images before finalizing the story. The order you set is preserved in the exported output.
How many images can I include in a single story?
Story Mode supports up to several hundred images per story. For best performance we recommend keeping stories under 100 images, but there is no hard technical limit imposed by the extension itself.
What export formats does Story Mode support?
Story Mode can export your image sequence as a ZIP archive of the ordered images, or as a self-contained HTML slideshow file that can be opened in any browser. More export formats may be added in future PRO updates.
Can I add captions or titles to images in my story?
Yes. Story Mode allows you to add a text caption to each image. Captions are displayed below the image in the story view and are included in the exported HTML slideshow, making it easy to add context or narration to each frame.
Is Story Mode a free or PRO feature?
Story Mode is a PRO-exclusive feature. Upgrade to GrokMediaDownloader PRO for $4.99 (lifetime license) to unlock Story Mode along with Stream Capture, Video Gen Queue, and Project Download.
